CAPS is committed to helping its members achieve their highest levels of competence as professional speakers, facilitators, coaches and trainers. To fulfill this commitment, the CAPS Board of Directors are working with the NSA Board of Directors with a view to adopting a common set of Professional Competencies to be mastered by Association members.

These competencies guide the selection of program topics for CAPS events, meetings, publications and conventions and form the core curriculum for the Certified Speaking Professional (CSP) program.

Members of the Canadian Association of Professional Speakers [CAPS] subscribe to four Professional Speaking Competencies:

  1. Expertise – knowledge, skills and experience in a specifically defined area
  2. Eloquence – the art of speaking and the use of powerful and persuasive presentations
  3. Enterprise – the skills for building a successful speaking enterprise
  4. Ethics – the principles governing the conduct of members of CAPS
